Two new hereditary haemochromatosis resources have been published online recently; one for nurses and one for general practitioners
Haemochromatosis for Nurses here is an online educational activity developed by Haemochromatosis Australia for Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA). The course has been developed to provide an understanding of haemochromatosis – including the symptoms, diagnosis, and management. Upon completion of the module, nurses will be confident in supporting and educating the patient and their family on how to manage their condition. Details of the national support organisation Haemochromatosis Australia website and Information Line are Included in the module.
The new resource for general practitioners is in the form of another excellent Teaching Plan from General Practice Supervisors Australia (GPSA). The Hereditary Haemochromatosis Teaching Plan is listed under ‘Diagnoses’ on the GPSA website here.
This resource helps GP registrars develop an approach to the patient with possible iron overload, and encourages an understanding of the role for genetic testing. Included are a number of excellent clinical resources, and links to Haemochromatosis Australia.
Haemochromatosis resources for patients
Patients with high iron levels often have a range of concerns and questions. Good patient resources can help patients and their families understand more about what may initially seem a worrying diagnosis.
