The survey forms part of a two-year honours project by James Cook University sixth-year medical student Jessica Pearce ‘Factors affecting self-management of haemochromatosis: an explanatory study’. The ultimate aims of the study are to promote awareness and support of the importance of self-management and to contribute to the development of educational and informative tools and resources for medical practitioners and patients.

This project is under the supervision of Associate Professor Suzanne McKenzie and Dr Robin Ray, of James Cook University.  This project has received ethics approval from the JCU Human Research Ethics Committee.

Jessica has already conducted a literature review and two focus groups of haemochromatosis patients in the Townsville region. Local Haemochromatosis Australia Volunteer Advocate Sheryl Brannan and members of the Townsville Regional Haemochromatosis Support Group participated in these focus groups and helped Jessica refine the survey requirements.

Haemochromatosis Australia strongly support the aims of the project and believe it can contribute to the improvement of support and education for people with haemochromatosis. We urge you to participate in the survey.
