An exciting art exhibition of works by well-known Australian artists and photographers will open in Wollongong in August. The exhibition will help raise awareness of haemochromatosis and funds for Haemochromatosis Australia. Twenty-one artists including 2014 Archibald Prize finalists Anh Do and Paul Ryan, 2013 Behind the Lines Cartoonist of the Year David Rowe and Woolsheds photographer Andrew Chapman will exhibit works. Many of the artists have a personal connection to haemochromatosis with the common inherited iron overload disorder touching their lives.
Anthony Marshall, Overload NSW exhibition curator, artist and Haemochromatosis Australia Volunteer Advocate has suffered long-term medical problems as a result of a late diagnosis of haemochromatosis and is passionate about raising awareness of haemochromatosis in his community. ‘This is something I can give back. Use my skills and talent to raise awareness of haemochromatosis so people will realise it is a common disorder. They need to be aware of the risks and signs and get tested if necessary. There is a simple test if there is any suspicion of iron overload and a good future if it is detected, monitored and treated in time. It’s fantastic to see so many wonderful artists willing to participate and help out too.’ said Anthony.
